I lived in south Korea for several years while my dad was in the Army. We lived on an Army base almost the entire time. It was the only time I ever went to DOD schools instead of local schools. The times we went into Seoul were really exciting. Of course being 10, just anything would be exotic and exciting. It was definitely an experience.

musicrazy added an entry about South Korea:
I LOVED Korea! It is so clean and modern (in the big cities) and shopping is great! Also, the people are EXTREMELY nice and the food is AMAZING (although I know several people who did not like the food there very much.) Don't worry though... they have many other kinds of food there. It is definitely worth visiting!!
lived there for 2 1/2 years

ticklemeetuttie added an entry about South Korea:

i'd eat myself to death with all the korean food! besides thai food, korean food is the way to my heart man. =) hrm. my primary objective in going to korea would be to find myself a husband, of course (i'm kidding, i think :D). and, on a less materialistic note, to watch their soccer team and explore the culture a bit! i hear korea is really low key and mellow.

mkay added an entry about South Korea:
One week, six cities. Two plane rides, one boat ride, endless bus rides. Oh, but it was worth it. Nothing like the crisp autumn weather. Also, natural beauty, energetic cities, lovely temples, fun-loving people—some of them drunken businessmen singing in the streets late at nite. I'll even sing along, off-key.
But I can't take yet another meal of bee-bim bop! Please pass the kimchee!

I did not spend enough time sight-seeing while I was stationed here. I would like to go back as a civilian and really see the land. I visited Seoul a few times (and bought an “Eric Crapton” CD) and took a bus trip up to the DMZ, which was certainly bizarre, but overall, my year in S. Korea was mostly spent drinking and waiting to leave. Oh, the foolishness of youth!

I was there in the US Army in 1975 and 76. Went back two years ago. Everything has changed. Korea was a mystical, rural, undeveloped place back then. Today it is a thoroughly modern, totally wired place. I didn't recogize anything.
It lost some of it's charm in my opinion.

How this place changed my life
Pernille added an entry about South Korea:
As every workcamp does, I am a wiser person now. I spent 14days in a temple in South Korea, ok not the typical temple coz it was smack bang in the centre of seoul but I still got to discuss (mostly by sign language) with monks and learn their customs (chanting at 4am) and the importance of Buddha's birthday (massive parade and festival in all of Seoul and Korea I guess but I didn't witness the latter). Mountain temples are breath taking (go to Mt. Namsan near Gyeongju) and tea plantations are beyond reality in the misty morning. Food is not the best unlike ou like your lips burnt to the 46th degree lol. The people are suspicious (hmm bloody tourists) and the westerners even more so (I thought I was the only one in Korea) but you can change that by freely distributing smiles and if you help the community (give out lunches at an elderly centre, carry the front flag at a parade, pick up rubbish on temple grounds) people will squeeze your hand and smile so much your eyes will well up. Like the souvenir t-shirts say, it is the hidden gem of south east Asia.

I love Seoul and Jeju-do. Seoul has many old architectures in the center of downtown so that you can feel old and new Korea easily and conveniently. Jeju-do is not a big island but has an unique environment.

I work at a wonderful university in South Korea and really enjoy the warmth and friendliness of the people. They can be very “pro-Korea!” and might seem aloof to strangers (cultural thinking views), but once you get to know one, they usually bend over backwards to help you! Plus, I love the respect they show for elders in this country ^^!!

I did not care for Korea. It was more Western than I thought it would be.
I do have to say that I was here for work and didn't found the people to very open to new ideas. Very stubborn and feel that they are always right.
I have no desire to go back.
Love Korea
Dave Lewis added an entry about South Korea:

I was stationed in korea and I enjoyed seeing their cultures in the small villages. My favorite place was what we referred to as Buddah Mountain where the buddahist priests were worshipping or whatever they do. Altogether it was a beautiful place to visit and I would love to return someday.
